Elena, make friends doesn’t apply to the person you’re speaking to. You use BE friends. MAKE FRIENDS refers to other people.
Grumbler’s translation is correct, but according to English logic, you first discover common interests and then become friends as a result.
When checking I did come across the same opinions on English mentality
"Friendship doesn’t start with a question. It’s built over time and shared experience. "
"... in English (= western culture), where friendships grow gradually but tacitly from acquaintanceships."
🙄 Strange
*Upon checking, ...
Grumbler, very interesting. I immediately saw the discrepancy. You and Tatiana can be very proud of your level of mastery when you’re at the point that you’re studying the cultural-psychological aspects of language, beyond the lexical-grammatical points. It makes me feel so behind in my Russian.
That's nice. But what does that have to do with me I'm wondering?))
Your level of proficiency in English is as advanced as Grumbler’s))
Ну вот, напросилась на комплимент. Спасибо большое! 😉 Я только не согласна, что ты в чём-то от нас отстаёшь. 🙄
