упорхнули голубки из гнезда
I came across this Russian idiom. Is it the equivalent of "to fly the coop" in English? Meaning, the person or thing has escaped and gotten away?
The lovebirds have flown the coop

The word "голубки" hints on a couple with somewhat intimate relationship. So the overall meaning is probably closer to just "escaped" rather than "grew up and left parents"
this literally means 'to fly the nest"
