a/the person with (exactly) the same (first and last) name

Tatiana Gerasimenkoadded a comment 4 years ago

I may be wrong, but I remember one discussion on hinative.com, where some natives were trying to explain "namesake" isn't the same as a/the person with (exactly) the same (first and last) name, which is a coincidence.

I also remember their example about the Bush family. George W. Bushwould be a namesake, but not because he has the same name as his father, George W. H. Bush, but only because he was NAMED after him.

one that has the same name as another, especially : one who is named after another or for whom another is named

Yes, especially, but not necessarily

grumbleradded a comment 4 years ago

Elena Bogomolovaadded a comment 4 years ago

Если one has the same name as another, он же не может быть неполным тезкой.

grumbleradded a comment 4 years ago

Elena Bogomolovaadded a comment 4 years ago

Tatiana Gerasimenkoadded a comment 4 years ago

grumbleradded a comment 4 years ago

Tatiana Gerasimenkoadded a comment 4 years ago
