I’ve started asking myself whether whatever follows гимн чему-то (a paean to something) is meant as a general idea of that thing or a particular idea of that thing (patience in general vs. the patience of that particular couple), which surely affected my ability to translate that snippet. I’d be glad to hear your thoughts.

мысль не моя, но я думаю, что автор восхищён способностью пары ( в актёрской среде) преодолеть трудности и остаться вместе. Как будто ставит другим в пример.

Скорее, в общем

MAKE DO не тоже самое, что быть CONTENT with little. В отсутсвии других вариантов тебе придется make do, потому что у тебя не выбора, но ты не обязательно ДОВОЛЕН этим — наоборот! ты такой: На безрыбье... 🙄 Поэтому make do тут не звучит.

Да, тоже не придумала ничего лучше - settle for и make do - не то, и thankful/grateful - тоже не то.

Ну, тут спорный момент: довольствоваться -- это по смыслу ближе к "обходиться/удовлетворяться" (на данный момент, за отсутствием других вариантов)
