When we want to refer to something disparagingly, we use DAMN/STUPID/FUCKING… it doesn’t literally mean stupid here.

По-моему, по смыслу именно literally stupid. Лиса притворяется мертвой (чтобы птиц поймать), а птицы, глупые, не понимают и лезут в ловушку/западню.

To be fair, I was going off the sentence as it’s written on this post and interpreted it exactly the way any native English speaker would interpret those words. Apparently, this is just a bad translation from Russian, and I didn’t have the benefit of the original Russian. So I stand by my translation of the sentence as it appears HERE.

Если же там всё-таки «как будто» и «глупые», значит, мы имеем дело с глупым переводом с русского на английский, и овчинка выделки не стоит.

Ладно, убедили. Неправильная запятая перед like меняет смысл, но делает всё предложение бессмысленным. И действительно, тогда нет ничего тупого/глупого в птицах, слетающихся к трупу.
