Uly, please explain why “exercise” needs no article in this context. I have always thought the word is countable.

It’s countable if you’re talking about a specific exercise: “Pushups are a good exercise.” But if you’re talking about an activity that isn’t an exercise per se, but you get a good workout doing it, you use the collective form: “My wife and I enjoy walking through the park every morning. It’s good exercise and we enjoy being in nature.”
