Татьяна, Вы, пожалуйста, секундомер не включайте. Во-первых, я здесь не сижу круглые сутки. Я переводами занимаюсь между делом здесь, когда есть время. Во-вторых, у меня есть основания не доверять на 100: Uly Marrero, в чем не раз убеждалась. Этот перевод я проверяла с носителями, мне сказали ОК (я не поняла, о чем речь, сначала).
И, в-третьих, на мою просьбу удалить Ваш абсолютно неверный перевод https://www.lingvolive.com/en-us/community/posts/1368450 2 дня назад Вы откликнулись только сегодня. Что же, себе Вы позволили сомневаться целых 2, дня, а мне счет на часы ведете??
Вот поэтому я считаю, что каждый должен начать с себя.

Елена, Вы опять переворачиваете всё с ног на голову: я узнала о проблеме с тем переводом из той заметки, но дело было к ночи, поэтому я пообещала посмотреть с утра на свежую голову. Что и сделала. Вы же как будто игнорировали критику Улия. Не надо опять мешать в кучу присущее всем свойство ошибаться и присущее Вам свойство не признавать ошибки.

The translations I provided in that post are absolutely contextual and idiomatic within the context of the paragraph the original statement appeared in. Yours. Isn’t. Period. If this site is about helping people with languages, you did Sasha a big disservice by suggesting such a rudimentary translation. That makes you a menace to this site and to the English language. As a translator, you should value the importance of accuracy. I want success for Sasha in his translation project, and continued help in English for the users of LL who are interested in learning real English.

Tatiana, thank you for exposing this nightmare here in a note. Awareness is key. Now that we apparently have a Mediator, I wonder what steps (s)he’ll take to make this resource the best it can be.

Tatiana, that’s an excellent point. I’m human and I sometimes misunderstand the original Russian, or am unaware of a British nuance, etc. I make mistakes. I would recommend that everyone on this site trust me 98% with English. Just today, Grumbler pointed out that in Britain an outhouse can be a barn. I had asserted that it’s ALWAYS an outdoor toilet. I. WAS. WRONG!!! But I enjoy being wrong because the result is that I always learn something. I don’t post translation in Russian (without verification) because 80% of them would be wrong. Having said that, I know my Russian is good. No excellent! And I can say that because I’ve seen other (non-Russian) people’s Russian. But even then, I would NEVER assume to teach someone Russian.

I believe that Elena Bogomolova is essentially a good person. Her Russian is beyond reproach - I’ve learned volumes from her. My only problem with her is that she “encroaches” (for lack of a better word) on my territory. Other users also post things in English that may be wrong, but they’re quick to implement my corrections or delete bad translations. Elena seems to proceed with an unmitigated assurance (if not arrogance) that her translations come down on a cloud from heaven and should be taken at face value - even after they’re questioned. We have a saying in English: “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.” I may not be perfect, but I’m the ONLY one you have here who’s willing to share his extensive insights every day on almost every post. So it’s me or nobody. Given that, I’m sure you can understand my frustration when my translations, and good translations from others, have to exist alongside Elena’s decidedly incorrect/unidiomatic/non-contextual guesses.

And it’s not so much a problem with her translation being “incorrect” per se - it just distracts people from learning the more accurate COME UPON and RIVULET/BROOK. Why promote rudimentary English. English is such a rich language. This would have been the perfect opportunity to learn three very interesting, common and useful vocabulary items.

Ну, во-первых, вы должны всегда проявлять уважение к другим пользователям страницы, поэтому считается, что толерантность должна быть нулевой, в этом случае, потому что уважение является основой всего. В этом знаменитом фильме к ним будут относиться очень плохо, и с вещами не всегда будут обращаться хорошо.
