Вот второй вопрос посложнее. Какие-то писатели-поэты имеются в виду. Но сказать, кто именно так сразу трудно.

I think he's compared to other Russian poets. maybe all of them, maybe only his contemporaries. I don't get the comparison, though. as far as I know he wasn't a saint himself. but maybe all the others were even worse. I'm just speculating here, I really don't know much about Russian poets and this lifestyle.
