Both these translations are correct, but they would be so much more natural with contractions!

If only it would be possible to know all existing idioms... I said the "tail" because we say so when something is in the past, and I retired in April, and now I am free as a bird. But the tail is still here🦎

We also have the same idiom - сила привычки. However, "хвост" sounds very informal and humorous.
