where the texts for reading can be found?

where can the texts for reading be found?

Elena Bogomolovapublicó un comentario hace 7 años

Uly, I remembrr what you said about "texts", but here isn't " a reading text" a fixed expression?

•-<(||=ULY=||)>- •publicó un comentario hace 7 años

Elena, remember "reading text" can be part of a lot of different types of sentences depending on whether READING is a noun or a verb, so it's not a very reliable search. Let's start here: what exactly is implied by текст для чтения?

Elena Bogomolovapublicó un comentario hace 7 años

It's an excercise in a textbook, as far as I understand

Elena Bogomolovapublicó un comentario hace 7 años

I checked - in Headway (an Oxford English textbook) "texts" are used. For example, "Read the text about...", " Complete the text with prepositions...".

Elena Bogomolovapublicó un comentario hace 7 años

May be they can't be called "reading texts", but " texts for reading" only?

•-<(||=ULY=||)>- •publicó un comentario hace 7 años

Thank you, we call that a “reader” - a book containing extracts of literature or passages of text designed to give learners of a language practice in reading.

•-<(||=ULY=||)>- •publicó un comentario hace 7 años

This is a type of “reading material” which is composed of “texts” for reading practice. In Russian, текст refers to the whole book, in English the book is composed of “texts” - both languages have different interpretations of what the cognate “text” stands for. But Russians use the word text interchangeably in both languages because they look the same.

Ok, then that makes sense. I was thinking of bound books, not Internet resources.

•-<(||=ULY=||)>- •publicó un comentario hace 7 años

What I mean is that for the most part a text is a book in English. However in specific situations, it CAN refer to a passage of writing, but not as often as it does in Russian.

I think I undersood, that's why here, despite our arrangement that I don't mention the word "text" anymore; I still used it 🌝

•-<(||=ULY=||)>- •publicó un comentario hace 7 años

Yes, you were right. I’ve become trigger happy when it comes to this word.

•-<(||=ULY=||)>- •publicó un comentario hace 7 años

Although I wouldn’t have used the definite article.

Elena Bogomolovapublicó un comentario hace 7 años

The definite article... if they speak about the texts they know, why not?
So, I must be happy to stay alive)). "To be trigger happy" is a great expression.
"Всякий раз, когда я слышу это слово, я хватаюсь за пистолет".

•-<(||=ULY=||)>- •publicó un comentario hace 7 años

I’m glad you like it, but it doesn’t mean to grab the gun, it means to shoot without thinking)

•-<(||=ULY=||)>- •publicó un comentario hace 7 años

In terms of the definite article, this post to me sounds like someone looking for resources to practice reading a language, not a specific set of texts.

А-а, тогда "стрелять без разбора"

Elena Bogomolovapublicó un comentario hace 7 años

"Всякий раз, когда я слышу это слово, я стреляю без разбора" 👍
