I checked - in Headway (an Oxford English textbook) "texts" are used. For example, "Read the text about...", " Complete the text with prepositions...".

May be they can't be called "reading texts", but " texts for reading" only?

In Russian, текст refers to the whole book, in English the book is composed of “texts” - both languages have different interpretations of what the cognate “text” stands for. But Russians use the word text interchangeably in both languages because they look the same.
