I don’t really think “на-” implies something voluminous. I believe it is about the word “набрать” in this particular meaning. Whereas in other cases such as “набрать грибов”, “набрать еды”, etc. using «много» is fine because both “много” and “набрать” require generative case after themselves, in this exact case “набрать” requires the accusative, which eliminates the possibility of using “много”, as the latter still must be followed by a noun in generative case. Long story short, there’s a certain conflict of cases that makes such a phrase impossible.
