What do you prefer - tea with milk or not?
Do you prefer - tea with milk or not? только мой вариант требует проверки, и исправления(дополнения) , если нужно.

It’s already been established that they want tea, the question is how. In this case we use the personal possessive pronoun to elaborate on the original order. Elena’s translation is unnatural in this context. For the record, her original translation was “Do you want tea with or without milk?”

Зухра, the problem with Ms. Bogomolova's "translation" is that it simultaneously asks two questions: (1) Would you like tea? (2) How would you like it? This would sound somewhat strange to the native ear. Once a person has been offered tea, or has ordered tea, we refer back to it as YOUR TEA in this type of question: https://context.reverso.net/translation/english-russian/like+your+tea

Elena, you would do well to post your translations in the comments so that they can be verified. That way users are guaranteed the best possible quality of English and not your guesses and conjectures. Have a heart!

Zoya, you were close! The correct answer is: Do you prefer YOUR tea with or without milk?

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 6 years ago

-or- Do you TAKE YOUR tea with or without milk?

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 6 years ago

I’m glad YOU did!

Kyle Palmerpublicó un comentario 6 years ago

I thought будешь meant going to be something. It also means you like?

Андриолли 1publicó un comentario 6 years ago

да. Будешь в этом вопросе означает - как ты Хочешь пить чай : с молоком или без него?

В магазине продавец может спросить у покупателя: Будете брать? Это значит: ну что? что вы решили? покупаете? В этом случае "будете брать"=покупаете?

будешь художником=собираешься стать художником?

Kyle Palmerpublicó un comentario 6 years ago

Sorry my Russian isn't that advanced. Can you explain in English?

Kyle Palmerpublicó un comentario 6 years ago

Is it like the future? Like how are you going to take your tea? but you just leave off take?

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 6 years ago

Kyle, I’m not very familiar with this either. I think you’re right. I think they can just leave off TAKE and use “будешь”. I'll let the natives answer though.

Kyle Palmerpublicó un comentario 6 years ago

Thanks man.

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 6 years ago

We'll both learn)))

Kyle Palmerpublicó un comentario 6 years ago

Андриолли 1publicó un comentario 6 years ago

если бы я могла перевести это на английский быстро, точно и красиво ))

Do you want ice-cream? = Ты хочешь мороженое? = Ты будешь (есть) мороженое?

Kyle Palmerpublicó un comentario 6 years ago

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 6 years ago

For you and me both!

Kyle Palmerpublicó un comentario 6 years ago

Kyle Palmerpublicó un comentario 6 years ago

Андриолли 1publicó un comentario 6 years ago

do you want your tea with or without milk, right? absolutely! :)

Elena Bogomolovapublicó un comentario 6 years ago

Kyle, yes, we usually ask будешь meaning do you want/ would you like?
For example,
Ты суп будешь? meaning Would you like some soup?
Ты салат будешь? Ты хлеб будешь?etc.
