Если просьба, то по-русски правильнее "Разрешите пройти". "Можно пройти?", на мой взгляд, звучит несколько вызывающе.

“Can I get past?” is also a little impolite and defiant. There are way more polite ways to say this.

For instance, if your kids are playing in the doorway and you’re bring boxes in from your car, you’d say this as a sort of “move out of the way”.

You would also say this if you weren’t waiting for permission and just pushing past someone.
