Was she armed to the teeth?

Alexander Machtakovpublicó un comentario 9 years ago

Haha, I highly doubt she has ever seen a real gun :-) No, Marissa, the idiom is quite peaceful.

Alexander Machtakovpublicó un comentario 9 years ago

No, she wasn't, Vadim. Also I don't think the word 'panoply' is an idiom.

Vadim Dzharatovpublicó un comentario 9 years ago

what about she was dressed fit to kill?

Alexander Machtakovpublicó un comentario 9 years ago

Spot on, Vadim! John said she was dressed to kill, which means to wear clothes that attract attention and admiration.

Vadim Dzharatovpublicó un comentario 9 years ago

Hopefully John survived after all :)

Alexander Machtakovpublicó un comentario 9 years ago

Haha, evidently she was dressed just to threaten))

Alex Hrypunpublicó un comentario 9 years ago

Packing heat?

Alexander Machtakovpublicó un comentario 9 years ago

Alex, sorry, no, the idiom's been figured out by Vadim. It's "to be dressed to kill"

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 9 years ago

I thought it was "up in arms" :)

Alexander Machtakovpublicó un comentario 9 years ago

Yes, Uly, sometimes several idioms fit ;-) Thank you! Yours is new for me. 'up in arms' means to be angry. Live and learn!

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 9 years ago

UP IN ARMS actually means to be indignant about something. For example, "the State just published the new minimum wage for educators and all the teachers in our school are up in arms." (they're outraged and can't believe what they're seeing)

Another idiom that fits here is ARMED TO THE TEETH

Alexander Machtakovpublicó un comentario 9 years ago

UP IN ARMS = to be indignant. I will definitely use it!
