From Lermontov's завещать
Признаться, право, было б жаль
Comentário do autor
The meaning of Признаться, б? The rough English translation I found was reading: to sadden them (with the news),but priznatsa means admit, right. Difficult for me to make sense of it....
- Context: Отца и мать мою едва ль
Застанешь ты в живых...
Признаться, право, было б жаль
Мне опечалить их.

Xiaoqing, it means "To be honest it would be a shame to upset them".
признаться is "to admit, to confess", but it is also used (in this case also) as "вводное слово", something like "to tell you the truth" or, indeed, "to be honest".
право is used the same way, for example 'я, право, и не знаю что сказать",but it's a bit old-fashioned (it's very characteristic for 19th century upper classes).
б is the short form of бы. it is often used, especially in poetry, where you have to fit the words in rhythmic patterns, instead of бы (что б, кто б, было б, чтоб) but there's no difference whatsoever between the two.
