The stage around 3 years old is considered the most difficult here. Kids are called "ужасные трехлетки".

It seems that I fell behind the times. Nowdays 2 years old are also awful. So there is also the term "эти ужасные двухлетки".

thank you. it seems some professional literature calls it "кризис двух лет", but this term looses some of the "terribleness" of the original expression.
