We only use the perfect when we need to emphasize that one thing has been done before something else can be done/take place: [CEO]: I’d like to hear more about your program, Griffin, will you join me for lunch? [Griffin]: I already had lunch, but thank you. | I’ve already had lunch, but perhaps I can order a dessert and coffee and tell you about the program while you eat.
