¿Cómo traducir? (en-ru)

Trust me, the pleasure’s all mine. We’ve literally been running a skeleton crew since we lost Jake, the guy you’re replacing, so you’re a sight for sore eyes, my friend.

  1. 1.

That's from a dialog I wrote for a Russian English school!

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 5 years ago

Where did you find that?

Tatiana Gerasimenkopublicó un comentario 5 years ago

Uly, сводить концы с концами is about a difficult financial situation someone finds themself in. Does "run a skeleton crew" means the same?

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 5 years ago

To run a skeleton crew is, for example, to do the job of five men with only two men available.

Again, this was the official translation, not mine. I’ll delete it!

Сводить концы с концами» соответствует выражению «to make ends meet”

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 5 years ago

Yeah, that’s not quite what it means here. It means to try to run a business with less employees than you need.

Tatiana Gerasimenkopublicó un comentario 5 years ago

И люди за это платят??? О боги(((

Tatiana Gerasimenkopublicó un comentario 5 years ago

Then сводили концы с концами wouldn't work there. Also, I'd never heard сбились с ног НА ГОЛОВУ.

Tatiana Gerasimenkopublicó un comentario 5 years ago

Сбились с ног would be a better version of Eugene's translation, but it's far from perfect. It implies something along the lines of "we were exhausted because of..." and is mostly used as in мы с ног сбились, разыскивая тебя повсюду.
Нам пришлось работать за двоих?

⁌ ULY ⁍publicó un comentario 5 years ago

Then I don’t think Eugene understood what this means. It means working/trying to get by with minimal employees.
