to purposely make someone nervous, excited, scared, upset, etc. This can be something good or bad: [good] “We’re taking the kids to the zoo tomorrow, but don’t tell them now or you’ll wind them up and they won’t be able to sleep from the excitement.” [bad] “You know she freaks out when you talk about conspiracies and the end of the world - why do you wind her up like that?”
