Я с fingerprints согласился бы, если бы дверь была стеклянная. Здесь это гораздо хуже, чем просто fingerprints

В данном контексте я понимаю "захватанная", как покрытая слоем засохшего грязного жира в местах, где к ней часто прикасаются. Именно это случется с деревянными (и не только) перилами, ручками , поручнями и даже с мышью для компьютера, если их регулярно не мыть. И именно против этого к дверям часто приделывают металлические (door) push plates в том месте, где дверь толкают руками. Отпечатки на обычных дверях не видны пока слой грязи на нарастет.

Если стекло или нержавейка, то да, могут быть и просто отпечатки, но, думаю, здесь другое. Татьяне виднее - пусть сама решает.

My speciality is nitpicking. IMO, hearts on this website have no value - including these that I am given - mostly by the administration, I believe.

Вот сейчас я и думаю: не случайно же я написала «захватанная», а не просто грязная. Склоняюсь к тому, что full of fingerprints точнее, чем просто какое-нибудь прилагательное со значением «грязный».

Well I believe that well-placed hearts support good translations and detract from heartless bad translations and benefit the whole community. I’d be the last to pretend that nitpicking isn’t fun, but I think it’s also important to “put your money where you mouth is” and give credit where credit is due for the sake of learners and the integrity of this site which we all seem so inescapably drawn to. As long as we’re all here, we may as well make a difference, otherwise what’s the sense of doing this day in and day out?

Tatiana, not only is it точнее, it’s actually what we say. And it goes for the mouse, the computer screen, the doorknob and anything that people smudge up with their filthy fingerprints over time.

Grumbler, why do you think the administration gives you hearts? I’ve never heard of them giving anyone hearts. In fact, a lot of times, I’ve come across your translations with no hearts and I’ve been the one to give you one. This is sounding like a conspiracy theory)))

Because they are normally given to me periodically in big bunches for the most recent translations, regardless of any 'quality' and on the top of the few real ones. This is their way of controlling the 'top 5'. I am not saying that this is the case for everyone, but certainly was the case for Olga in the past.

По-моему, версия про «администрацию, раздающую лайки» не выдерживает критики - наивно думать, что они озабочены рейтингами пользователей, когда они не видят, что у них под носом публикуют спам, порнографию и т.д. Согласна с Олли - пользователи зашли вечером после работы и наставили Вам лайков.

Думайте что хотите, но я за этим давно наблюдаю из любопытства. Когда-то наблюдал за https://www.lingvolive.com/ru-ru/community/rating - держал открытым таб в браузере на компьютере. У всех верхних (меня там еще не было) счетчики увеличивались скачками и почти в одно и то же время, но делалось это более регулярно.
Почему наблюдал? - Потому, что интересно было, как это у той же Ольги не было ни единого перевода без сердечка. Единственное другое объяснение - тайный почитатель, но оно не объясняет, почему эта тайная любовь распространяется на нескольких человек. Когда-то там побывал либо Валерий, либо Талгат, либо оба. И как только он туда попал (переводя все подряд без разбора), переводы без лайков сразу пропали напрочь. Любой бред через некоторое время получал сердечко.

It just hit me - another word for what Grumbler is describing as general filth on places people frequently touch is GRIME.
