Just such a freshwater source is found at the bottom of the Aegean Sea, near the coast of southeast Greece. It has a flow rate of some 1 million cubic meters per day. 2000 years ago, the resourceful Phoenicians artfully engineered a system that harvested water from the submarine spring, which provided all the inhabitants of Amrit with potable water.
