Usually we use IN SHORT ORDER to express that something is done quickly in response to an impetus: “When we told the kids that Santa Claus was at the mall, they got dressed in short order to go.” In other words, they would normally take their time or not want to go, but when they heard about Santa, they moved their little asses.

Когда мы сказали детям, что в торговом центре Дед Мороз, они собрались в два счёта/в мгновенье ока. Обычно их приходится поторапливать а тут они зашевелили своими маленькими булками.)))

impetus > стимул < лат. stimulus (палка) 😁

stimulus (sharp stick for making animals move) > impetus (rapid movement, rush)
