So what's wrong with avoiding idioms? The original sounds mandane
It’s not about avoiding idioms, it’s about using CORRECT idioms. IDIOMATIC means using language that a native would use. For example, COULDN’T YOU BE SO KIND is grammatically correct, but a native would never ask this with COULDN’T, but rather with WOULD - then it would both grammatical and idiomatic. 😉
COULDN’T YOU... is idiomatic in Russian, where it is idiomatic to ask a question in the negative in this context.
COULDN’T YOU BE... звучит как упрек: Что же мешает тебе быть...?!
