“they saw him enter the building — они видели, как он вошёл в здание”. Вопрос: какое правило объясняет форму глагола “enter”? почему не “was entering” или “entered”?

After verbs of perception, you can use a progressive form (entering) or a plain infinitive (enter). You CAN’T use a conjugated form (enters). So you can say We watched/saw/heard him play(ing) the piano last night.
