Elena, you added a question mark, but not an article before NEW.
Here’s an Ngram for British English. Obviously they prefer FILM, but “do you fancy watching” doesn’t even register.
Uly, they seem to say " fancy watching" in the UK:
That site is being tongue-in-cheek. We use it in that same comical way here. When we leave work with a coworker, we can say “Fancy a drink?” But it’s just that - tongue-in-cheek. However, if you really wanted to ask someone if they wanted to go see a movie with you in all seriousness, you would not likely say “Do you fancy going to see a movie later?” unless you wanted to sound downright Shakespearean.
there're more sites...
ok, I deleted my translation
Your translation wasn’t the problem, the original post is. I realize that’s what they teach in Russia, but I just wanted to point out that it should be incorporated into one’s conversational lexicon because nobody talks like that in the real world. To say nothing of the fact that it has errors.
I got it! Good to know.
but sometimes people only need a translation...
fancy a drink ?- не желаете ли выпить? (sounds humorously-pompously)- так?
Exactly. But without that explanation, you’d think it was ok to use FANCY for everything and you would sound silly.
*humorously pompous
