This is an assumption, no?

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Valery, MAYBE is one word

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

maybe you'll = you may...

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Aphrel, I don't think KNOW is correct here

Tatiana Gerasimenkoadicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Uly, why not "must"? They're almost sure.

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

You can’t use MUST with the future in assumptions. Does this mean something like “You will almost certainly recognize her” or “You will most likely know who she is” ?

Aphrel Allenadicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

my sentence is correct

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Tatiana, they both mean the same thing, if this is about recognizing someone when you see them in the future. Is that what this means?

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Aphrel, how do you know your sentence is correct? Isn’t this about the future, as Valery pointed out?

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

YOU MIGHT KNOW HER is about the present: Look at this picture of my friend Tatiana - you might know her. (=now)

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Valery, MAYBE (слитно!) is used to express uncertainty, whereas in this post an assumption of ASSURANCE is being made.

Tatiana Gerasimenkoadicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Yes, it's about recognizing someone in the future.

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Now Valery has two hearts)))

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Aphrel, your translation is still incorrect))

Aphrel Allenadicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

I repeat, my sentence is correct

Tatiana Gerasimenkoadicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Вы сейчас это носителю языка утверждаете. 🙄

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

I repeat, not if it’s about the future and not if you’re SURE they’ll RECOGNIZE them.

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Again, MIGHT and MAYBE are for uncertainties - I understand that in this post, there is an ASSUMPTION based on an ASSURANCE on the part of the speaker, correct?

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Then I repeat, Aphrel’s attempt is a mistranslation of the original text! Valery’s has a misspelling and conveys the wrong message anyway. Both wrong!

Tatiana Gerasimenkoadicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Aphrel, Ваш перевод означает «Ты, возможно, знаешь её». Потрудитесь найти два отличия.

Aphrel Allenadicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Мне нужно трудиться. Предложение с might может использоваться как в настоящем,так и в будущем(в контексте будет понятно,что конкретно нужно)Потрудитесь подтянуть грамматику получше и не будете путаться

⁌ ULY ⁍adicionou o comentário 6 лет назад

Aphrel, KNOW is a stative verb - it refers to an ongoing state of being familiar with someone. RECOGNIZE is a momentary verb that refers to the moment when you’re faced with someone/something and they are familiar to you. So a sentence like YOU MIGHT KNOW HER would be interpreted to mean something like IT MIGHT TURN OUT THAT YOU HAVE KNOWN HER ALL THIS TIME AND UP TO THE TIME YOU SEE HER. However, RECOGNIZE doesn’t imply that you ever KNEW the person for any length of time - it can refer to someone you saw snatch a woman’s purse at the train station. The police call you in to look at suspects and say “We’re going to show you about fifty mugshots (pictures of suspects’ heads). Please look them over carefully - you’ll more than likely RECOGNIZE one of them.” (= even though you don’t KNOW this person, he may appear FAMILIAR to you from that day at the station).
