:) наверное, тот случай когда не стоит верить Википедии. Я услышала play doctor в англоязычном детском мультике, - в нормальном контексте. В википедии похоже уже извращенный смысл. Конечно, если супругу вечером предложить "play doctor", то смысл явно другой будет :-)))

Uly, remembering about the articles and using them can be hard for speakers whose native language is Russian. you know we don't have those. It's really hard to get used to them.
As for the doctor's kit, I'm surprised you don't know what this is. We just gave one to our girl for X-mas. We ordered it from here:

Now she sticks a plastic syringe that comes with the kit into my butt every day. ))

I just think it’s a stretch to say PLAY WITH A DOCTOR’S KIT, when you can say PLAY DOCTOR. Also, it sounds like the child is playing with the kit that belongs to an actual doctor.
