btw, your 2nd version says "Big mistake - he’s so cute..." I was told by a native speaker that cute usually refers to girls and handsome to boys. Are you sure it ok to use 'he’s so cute' referring to a man?

Russ, men of all ages can be cute. It just means good-looking/hot from a woman’s perspective. When girls/women show each other pictures of their new boyfriend, they generally comment “Wow, he’s cute!”
