I was unaware The Queen actually accepted all gifts from all children. I always thought that security picked a few kids dressed up cute and had them at the ready for when she came by. I mean she's on par with their prime minister in terms of security right? One would imagine they're checking everything that's handed to her. So it seems like these people got all hyped up for something that may not have happened even if The Queen were accepting gifts. As for not accepting them at all? She's an elderly woman and it's cold out. She should not be standing outside for hours just to talk to people if the weather isn't mild. This could also be a sign she's starting to scale back her "duties". Her son and grandson have stepped up the number of engagements they attend right? Perhaps a shift is imminent?

Aleh, that song is the first thing that came to mind when I read this post :)

The difference is that in the song, it's not a general comment on the weather - the singer contrasts the misery of being OUTSIDE with the joys of being INSIDE and partaking in all the wondrous festivities he has planned ;)
