As far as I understand, as an intransitive verb the verb "venture" has a meaning of "proceed":

Roman explained the context - it's someone in a new city. Every day he dares to go a little farther from home. So yes, it means to proceed, but to proceed with caution, courage, trepidation.

Figuratively, it also implies movement with trepidation. Someone with no experience in the stock market can VENTURE into investments a little at a time, just risking what he can afford to lose until he learns the ropes.
