This is more than likely a stone wall on a property - the kind you see in the country. The children are walking along the wall, and, as they approach the part that passes under a window or near a door, they walk [EDGE!] closer to the wall, possibly using both hands to guide them along, so as to not be discovered. This person is looking through said door or window and sees their maneuvers unbeknownst to them, and is marveling at their audacity and curiosity.
