Film (=movie) is form of applied chemistry (because the film stock is a form of applied chemistry)

I still don’t see the word play. To me this post simply says that what we know as FILM/MOVIES/CINEMA, etc. comes down to a process whereby chemicals are applied to CELLULOID and the result is what we see. So where is the word play?

Ну, может быть и не игра, но в английском это одно слово film (и не зря он говорит film, а не movie, хотя и в Америке), а в русском - два слова - фильм и пленка.

He says film because in the beginning of the 20th century even in America didn't say movie, right?

And to clarify - we DO use the word film in English, but in the broad sense, like this one. Everything that is moving pictures. We just don’t usually say “I went to see a film” when we mean a movie that’s running in the theaters.
