"успел" - это все-таки что-то вроде "in time".

Russ, I like DID IT WORK?, but RIGHT ON TIME refers to an exact hour and minute and sound strange here as a standalone question. You would have to add: Did you arrive right on time? But then again, who's interested in knowing if you arrived on time to the minute? I thought this was more general.

What makes you think "успел?" has something to do with arrival? It sounds like someone was doing something and had to finish it on time. It does not say someone was traveling or running to get to some place on time.

Cовершенно не важно, успеть приехать вовремя (arrive) или успеть сделать задание вовремя.

Я бы сказал: Did you manage it? Did you do it on time?

"do" - потому, что "задание". to do the task

I still don’t agree with “right on time” – it’s too specific.

Grumbler, when we use IN TIME we usually mention FOR WHAT. We arrived in time for the opening/toast/presidents speech/etc. If it’s just a matter of arriving by the appointed them, then we use ON TIME.
