Uly, why 'clothes store' and not 'clothing store'?
Both are good, although I usually hear people say clothes store.
I've heard both, too. But our favorite ngram shows the tremendous difference in use:
what do you think?
You have to bear in mind that Ngrams searches published books and "clothing store" is an industry word, so it's going to be in a lot of books. However, in the day to day language, as a destination on the weekend, for example, and not as a classification for a type of store, most people say "clothes store." It's hard to explain. If you look at this, the first entry has CLOTHING STORE in the title as a type of store, but the person who write the entre uses CLOTHES STORE as if she were talking in everyday life: But again, they're both good.
got it, thanks
