I don’t know if it makes any difference in Russian, but here, the speaker is the “organizer” and is looking to include the listener in his leisure time and is wondering what they’re in the mood to do with the speaker, to join the speaker, no to do them on their own.
Father: Get up, son, I’ve called into work and I’m taking the entire weekend off. What are you up for? Fishing? Hiking? Tennis?…
I am hungry.What are you up for?
(?)
Amindjan, that changes everything. If someone’s been sick, or depressed, or stressed out, use ask this in the sense of what they feel like eating because you don’t imagine they have much of an appetite. You should’ve given the context from the beginning.
What are you up for?"
No, it’s not the same scenario. When it’s about food, it’s about appetite.
A: Since you got covid, you’ve eaten nothing but soup. Do you want more soup for dinner or are you up for something more substantial?
No, in the second scenario, the speaker knows that the listener has been sick and doesn’t know if he has an appetite for anything besides soup.
BUT it can also be used as in the first scenario, in the sense of “Shall we go eat? What do you feel like eating?“
Где же тогда amindjan's "I am hungry" ?
Oh! The first person says they’re hungry, and the second person to ask them what they have an appetite for (Assuming that they’ve been sick, or they’re finicky, etc.)
"Что ты задумал" будет 'what are you up to'
