I was married to a chef and he only used “to seed” when talking about removing seeds.

OK, but stupid people do use it in real life, including modern writers with English-sounding names. So, we have to stop using ngram from now on - it doesn't prove anything.

Дело в том, что de-seed как слово совсем не нужно, так как seed уже существует и имеет желательное значение. Говорить “de-seed” звучит немного как говорить ихний вместо их.
