A couple of days ago someone asked about this word- maverick. Actually, the word " maverick" has two meanings, but now we use only one. We use "maverick" for an individual who does not go along with others, or an independent- minded person. For example, we say: 1. " There's always one maverick here who has to go his way. 2. "Mike was considered a "maverick" because he refused to wear a suit as others."
Personally, I love the expression given by A.Schwarzenegger. It runs like this: "It is impossible to be a maverick or a true original if you're too well-behaved and don't want to break the rules."
Oh, I forgot the second meaning.Well, the word "maverick" also means "an unbranded animal" as in the picture above.
I'd like to share a bit of info about the origin of "maverick". A long time ago it was standard practice to brand cattle for identification purposes. Texas rancher, Samuel Maverick , neglected to do so and his cattle remained unbranded as they roamed the prairies of Texas. Thus, originally this word was used in term of a cattle that was different from the herd. Its meaning now has passed from cattle to people, and is used to describe someone who is different from others for some reason, particularly, in the sense of a rebel, or non-conformist.
The question is: Are you a MAVERICK in your area?

I AM quite a maverick, so I want to move out of the city I'm living in now)
Mavericks are also high waves! There's a film about them "Chasing Mavericks". It's about a legendary surfer Jay Moriarty.
There's at least one more meaning for 'maverick' - a homeless person, a vagrant.
After some body, who decides what should be put up and what should be not here, discards my note about roots of custom to hug and to kiss in the time of meeting or parting, I feeI AM quite a maverick here.
I am a maverick! :-)
