Oh btw, this verb in the meaning "to join" also implies that the person, who joins the collective, does it successfully. For example: Он хорошо влился в наш коллектив means he got on well with all of us/ we liked him/he has good relationship with all the members of this collective.
So, he didn't just join, he became a good/useful member of the group.
