You’re welcome)))

EVADED ANSWERING appears in your Ngram because it can be used alone: “I tried to ask him several times and he evaded answering.” And some people DO use “evaded answering the question” - but it sounds uneducated because it makes more sense to evade a question than the act of answering it.

it can be used alone

That's why I said 'частично'
The part in the parenthesis has to be removed

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 6 years ago

Ah! I didn’t know what that word meant))

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 6 years ago

Look again - it says “He evaded the question”

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 6 years ago

‘He denied evading THE QUESTION”

And dictionaries don’t teach you English, LIFE does. In this case, common sense dictates that you evade a thing, not an act.

Parliamentary question time is full of wonderful examples of extended verbs, conjunctions and prepositional phrases employed to evade answering a question.’

Ask him about the high points in his career as a civil servant, and he will first try to evade answering that question.’

‘For weeks, months, and even years, this Government has evaded answering questions in this House.’

Ksu, I hope you understood my explanation. It’s better to EVADE A QUESTION than to EVADE ANSWERING A QUESTION.
