That's why I was questioning нам приходится, which sounds more like "we have to... " to me.

The thing is that that’s exactly what it means. We need to/must believe what we like most. it’s in our best interest to believe what we like most. It behooves us to believe what we like most. How would you say that?

Нам нужно/следует//мы должны верить..
Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough. To me, нам приходится reads more like "there's nothing left for us to do but believe..."🤔
