Английский какой-то кривой и смысл не очень понятный
to send (something) off

Я должен был (что-то) отослать в UK для запчасти

чушь какая-то

The English is perfect))) To SEND OFF TO… FOR means that you have to look somewhere else in order to find something - you can’t find it locally.

In this case, the speaker is emphasizing how far they have to look to get the replacement.

If it didn’t sound odd to you, then by definition, it wouldn’t be an idiom.

by definition

I disagree. Many idioms sound natural and only the meaning differs from the direct one.

Oxford Dictionary: IDIOM. a group of words established by usage as having a meaning NOT DEDUCIBLE from those of the individual words (e.g., rain cats and dogs, see the light ).

However, SEND OFF FOR isn’t an idiom for that very reason. It’s a phrasal verb.
