(1) BETTER is a very strong imperative: when you leave the listener no option but to do what you’re commanding. As you can imagine, it’s mostly parents, teachers, policemen, etc. who use this form because it’s extremely authoritative. Because of this, it often figures in ultimatums, in which the consequence is expressed in an or-clause (as in the first example). Note that this type of imperative is not a request or a suggestion - it’s a command.
