Yes. I can imagine that less likely meaning can be to plant a seed to grow a watermelon. Possibly, just theoretically.

В этом я согласна с Грамблером - предложения непохожи на связанные по смыслу, просто автору нужно было знать перевод «иметь дело» в разных значениях: (1) столкнуться с чем-то; (2) общаться с кем-то.
Соответственно, во втором предложении не может идти речь о ситуации.

Связать их можно, но только в шутку или ради игры слов. :)

И в этом случае (и не только) "иметь с ним дело" означает взаимодействовать, общаться и т.п.

Да, тавтология для русского необычная, но именно так я это с первого взгляда понял. Скорее всего, намеренная - для перевода.
