Akbar, you can't "give" a question, you can only "ask" a question.

Akbar Borajabovadded a comment 7 years ago

yeah you are right but I read somewhere give a question

Can anybody advice how to improve listening?

Holy Molyadded a comment 7 years ago

Do you mean that you'd like to improve your understanding of English speech?

Akbar Borajabovadded a comment 7 years ago

I mean when I speak for example with german, italian, french and other people except of american and british people I can understand what they tell me

Akbar Borajabovadded a comment 7 years ago

Akbar Borajabovadded a comment 7 years ago

Akbar Borajabovadded a comment 7 years ago

how do you think practise ( talking with somebody) or watching movies without translation and audiobooks

Holy Molyadded a comment 7 years ago

All of it, Akbar, and as much as possible. Watch movies, TV shows, cartoons, stend-up comedy shows etc. Try not to use subtitles all the time, only turn them on when you don't understand something. It takes some time, but it'll come to you, trust me. It's only a matter of time and practice.

Abkar, Olga gave you good advice. I'd like to add that the more English YOU speak, the easier it becomes to understand other people. You should definitely choose a dialect and start working on the phonetics and structures of that dialect. Then speak to people who speak that dialect and listen to that dialect exclusively until it becomes familiar and natural to your ear and tongue. In other words, become an ACTIVE speaker of one dialect, and a PASSIVE listener of the others. And don't feel bad if you don't understand other dialects - in the US, we sometimes need subtitles under British movies because we don't understand everything. In summary - instead of taking on the entire English-speaking world, just pick a side :)

Haha, I was speaking to my friend from Utah the other day and he told me that I've nearly lost my cockney-ish accent he used to love so much! :))

Ha ha ha, that's funny! When I spoke to you, I also found that you had a good mix of both British and American English, but with more of an American accent.

Holy Molyadded a comment 7 years ago

Yeah, getting rid of my ugly past 😂

🇺🇸 Uly 🐝added a comment 7 years ago

Good idea! Not because I'm American, but I think that the American dialect is the most practical. It's certainly the most international, and I would think the most accessible for people learning English.

Soon you'll find me speaking with a strong German accent! Deutschland, Deutschland!

I know, right?! 😂
