Is this sentence gramatically correct? Point of my interest is the word 'appering'. Do i understand correctly that it plays here a role of Participle 1?

Как оказалось, компания, ориентированная на рынок товаров класса «люкс», не может выжить/удержаться на плаву после того, как сталкивается с непредвиденными обстоятельствами такого рода (попытка перевода с Runglish😉).
