You can receive remission of your sins while you're still alive and continue to live a righteous life. However absolution forgives your lifelong sins before death.

I thought remission and absolution are the synonyms. Aren't people granted the remission of sins in the sacrament of confession? Or they are granted absolution (only)?. In the Russian church this sacrament has always one meaning, no matter at what moment of your life it happens.

The way I understand it, absolution is granted before death. In my understanding, remission is granted at any time during one’s life to repent from previous sins.

At least in the Orthodox church the sacrament of repentance is always the same
