"Went into a convent" is also used, although not as frequently as "entered"

In our case with the poetess, she escaped from her misery by entering a convent. I think "going away" is the main action she took, while "entering" is just a means of her escape. That's why I believe that she went, not entered

The way I see it, she could have gone to the convent for succor without necessarily becoming a nun.

Uly, when we say "уйти в монастырь" it usually means "to take the veil"
