Sasha, can you give me more context?
Улий, this is unnecessary, because this very sentence is sort of conclusion to the whole paragraph, so I think it doesn't make much sense. :) But here you go:
That's not exactly how the things are/were.¿¿
Sponsorship financing is a key source of revenue for a large number of events. Naturally, sponsors don’t materialize out of thin air, and finding them is an important task for the organizer, which is quite frankly rather stressful. Where does one seek out the “right”
sponsors? How does one determine the optimal conditions? The answers to these questions could fill volumes. However, once the contract is signed, you can relax a bit and concentrate on other tasks.
Yet in reality, that’s not quite how it works/things work.
ACTUALLY IT’S ALL A BIT DIFFERENT is something you say when you come back to a situation after a long time and see that there have been significant changes. For instance, if I left LingvoLive and came back five years later and there was a new format and new users, etc., THEN I could say “Actually, it’s all a bit different (now).” I don’t recommend this in your translation!
“Mindy, what’s it like to be back in Australia after so many years. Is it like coming home?” -“Actually, it’s all a bit different... more buildings, new faces, older faces...”
Sasha, you seem like an intelligent guy. I want to give you two pieces of advice: (1) The more context you give for ANYTHING, the better your chances of getting the right translation for your project. So context is never “unnecessary.” (2) I’m the only native English speaker on this site, so I would be careful of translations offered by other Russians on here - they’re basically in the same boat as you; They’re here to LEARN English, not TEACH it))) Their translations amount to guesses, whereas my translations are based on life experience, education and a career in writing, translating and editing English professionally.
Tatiana, good work! Your version is almost perfect. (You don’t need THE).
- Rumor has it that after the tragic death of your parents, you got everything - the houses, the land, the shops, leaving your brother and sister with nothing.
- Actually, that’s not quite how it went: knowing that my sister and brother are drug addicts, our parents made a will in order to keep them from squandering what my parents had worked so hard for. So I'm going to do everything in my power to get them out of their addiction. And when they can behave like decent human beings, I’ll see how much of the family estate they can be trusted with.
Wow! 👍🙏
Tatiana, GREAT snippet!!!
Yet in reality, that’s not quite how it works.
Good choice, Sasha!
👍
Also, if you’re happy with a translation, give it a heart. It raises it in the translation window, leaving less desirable translation at the bottom. It also indicates to other users that the translation is worth learning (in most cases).
I have just started hiiting the like buttons :)
Good one! I just translated your other post. Let me know what you think.
Uly, i'm just having a little doubt about прибрал к рукам - got. To get something is neutral, whereas what the speaker means there is him taking some dishonest actions to get everything.
Ah! Thank you for clarifying. Let me think... you MADE OFF with everything, leaving your siblings with both arms at one length/outside looking in. 😂
hahahahahahahaha
Переведите для меня: you MADE OFF with everything, leaving your siblings with both arms at one length/outside looking in.
Кто бы мог догадаться, что здесь подойдёт to make off with? 😁
The same logic is applied here, Tatiana, but figuratively. You could also say CAME AWAY WITH, but that doesn’t imply that you did something underhanded to get it.
😊
:)
