prescription FROM the doctor

That’s because PRESCRIPTION can be the act of prescribing something, in which case we would say “the prescription of the doctor,” or it can refer to the actual thing prescribed, in which case we say “the prescription from the doctor.” However, a lot of medical professionals (at least in the US) are from other countries like China and India, and they use OF indiscriminately all the time.

“I didn’t think I’d need a cane after such a simple procedure, but I got one anyway relying on the prescription of my doctor. Now I’m glad I did!”

= relying on the fact that my doctor saw it fit to prescribe it

grumbleradded a comment 5 years ago

prescription может означать и recommendation/instruction (sort of)

grumbleradded a comment 5 years ago

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 5 years ago

I got a cane on the recommendation of my doctor”
