If she'd only had a cow... Or better two....
I don’t get it. Is that meant to be a joke?
Yes!))
The meaning is - the busier you are, the less drama you have.
When an elderly countrywoman was told a story about Anna Karenina's drama, she said/responded: "I wish she had a cow... better yet, two..."
Uly, about the joke: the thing is that Anna Karenina's character was full of "problems/drama" that easily could be avoided if she was busy with things like household, raising kid, laundry, gardening, working on the fields, working with cattle in the livestock and so on. So, having a cow, milking a cow, feeding a cow, herding a cow is a huge and time-consuming responsibility. As we all know, the farmers/countrymen are busy from 5 am till sunset. They are fully occupied with their daily routine, so they won't have time for drama...
I hope I explained the joke comprehensively. Please comment on the translation.
Ah ok! Now I get it)))
@Russ: When an elderly PEASANT woman was told THE story OF Anna Karenina's drama, she said/responded: "I wish she had HAD a cow (to take care of)... OR better yet, two..."
Damn it, I first wrote PEASANT but then decided to replace it with countrywoman, I don't know why...
Thanks.
+ 1 beer=2
hahahahaha it bivayets!
a countrywoman is a woman who comes from the same country as you))
The thing is that Anna Karenina's character HAD LOTS/TONS of "problems/drama" that COULD EASILY HAVE beEN avoided if she'D HAD THINGS TO busy HERSELF with like household CHORES, raising kidS, laundry, gardening, working IN the fields, RAISING cattle _ and so on. So [no comma] having a cow, milking a cow, feeding a cow, herding a cow is a huge and time-consuming responsibility. As we all know, _ farmers/PEASANTS are busy from DAWN TO DUSK. They are fully occupied with their daily routine, so they DON'T have time for drama...
